Responsibilities

To work in the business by ensuring that processes run smoothly and to work on the business by actively seeking continuous improvement opportunities. VSL Trainee has continuous interaction with their teams and may communicate observations (including concerns) of performance by their team members to the VSL and is responsible for recommending and assisting with direction and execution of personnel action associated with performance feedback or disciplinary actions directly with their team members.

  • Assist leadership at the Tier 1 Meeting ensuring metrics are reviewed; metric misses are addressed with countermeasures, root cause identification, corrective actions, with assigned responsibility and target completion dates and ensure any support required is identified and verified
  • Maintain the integrity of Tier 1 and 2 Board data and information
  • Assist leadership with daily work assignments of process/team members (Operators) and all required training and certifications are being tracked for evaluation
  • Attend Tier 2 Meeting escalating issues requiring additional support and communicating the result of the items escalated along with retuning any required information to the Tier 1 team area
  • Perform regular lean process audits to verify integrity of lean standards
  • Maintain housekeeping and safety of Tier 1 area. Provide assistance with training and demonstration on lean tools and methodology
  • Assist Value Stream Leader with assessing team member development needs and developing training plans
  • Attend GEMBA walk with VSL to facilitate achievement of production requirements, consistency, and teamwork
  • Provide regular communication, feedback, and ongoing support to operators. Accountable for Safety, Quality, and Productivity
  • Monitor and ensures a positive work environment for employees
  • Ensure that an effective communication system is in place through all levels of the process
  • Respond quickly to “Andon” signals that require support
  • Assist VSL with line design and loading

Standard responsibilities of all employees:

  • Models the Masonite Core Values and lean leadership competencies
  • Follows applicable quality and environmental procedures and work instructions and completes required paperwork as trained
  • Identifies and highlights any activity or process that may lead to the defect of a product or allow a defective product to lead the team area
  • Wears Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required
  • Uses caution and follows safety rules to protect self and others from injury throughout the operation. Actively participates in safety programs and initiatives. Reports injuries, unsafe conditions, equipment or practices immediately to VSL

Qualifications
  • Education: High School Diploma
  • Additional formal education and/or training is a plus
  • 1-3 plus years work experience in a manufacturing environment required
  • Successful candidates have shown a good performance record of technical competence and leadership demonstrated through performance feedback at the meets or exceeds expectations level
  • Working knowledge and experience of production flow and processes
  • Highly energized and self-motivated with experience working with teams to implement change
  • Have the patience, perseverance and passion to drive the lean culture across the plant
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) required for coaching others
  • Ability to lead, influence and motivate a group of peers without direct supervision authority
  • Have a good attendance record
  • Team Leadership; ability to lead associates through coaching and mentoring
  • Highly energized and self-motivated with experience working with teams to implement change
  • Self-driven, accountable, high integrity, open communicator, strong work ethic
  • Intermediate computer skills in programs such as MS Word, MS Excel and Outlook are required, fast and accurate data entry skills
  • General accounting knowledge helpful
  • Strong time management skills.​ Must be able to handle various issues simultaneously and prioritize.​
